1 Day in Reykjavik, Iceland Must Sees…
For my 30th birthday, I wanted to spend it in the Blue Lagoon…
and to do a 10-day tour of Europe. Our first stop was Reykjavik, with only less than 24 hours in Iceland I did some research and talked to some friends and here is where we went, what we did, and what we wish we knew before we got there…
Things to do…
Blue Lagoon- Relax in the blue lagoon for the day or for a couple of hours. A good tip is if you land in the early am in Reykjavik, you should head there first. It will be less crowded and there is a place out front where you can store your luggage until you are ready to leave. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance. They have a cafe inside if you’re hungry and you can reserve lunch or dinner there as well. There is also a hotel and spa if you would like to stay there as well.
Take a day trip to Öxarárfos, Thingvellir National Park
You have to try their lamb hotdogs: Bæjarins Beztu's world-famous hotdog
Check out the Tallest Church Hallgrímskirkja Tower
Explore Laugavegur Street -Shops & Restaurants
A sunset walk along the Sculpture & Shore Walk at Midnight
Reykjavik Appy Hour is a free app that lets users know of happy hour specials throughout Reykjavik in real-time
Tip: August is the offseason, but to see the northern lights go at the end of August to get better deals as well. Also do forget to bring a warm jacket, gloves and hat. We bought a hat while we were there and it was pretty pricey! Also, you should rent a car, gives you so much more freedom to do a day trip.
Where we stayed:
We stayed at Geo Hotel Grindavik, in Grindavik, which is 8 min away from the Blue Lagoon, but 45 min from Reykjavik. Grindavik is the best area to see the Northern Lights and also its a beautiful little town as well and such nice people at the hotel.
